One Story One City Related Children’s Programming

Storytimes (See our library calendar for full schedule)
From rockets to robots to space to other STEM-related fun, our storytimes during the month of March will feature books and activities related to the science themes of  Rocket Girls. We hope parents will model reading to their tots by participating in One Story, One City.

 Rocket Launch – Stomp Rockets (Grades K-6)

  • Wednesday, March 1, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm @ Canyon Country Library
  • Friday, March 31, 2:00 pm @ Old Town Newhall Library

Create your own NASA inspired rocket and watch it fly.

The Wednesday Club (Ages 8-12)
Consecutive Wednesdays from March 1 – March 29, 4:00-5:30 pm
Valencia Library
Each week a different fun project will be highlighted focusing on STEM – like making easy Tumble Wings that can fly.

Rocket Art – Crafternoon at the Library (Grades K-6)
Thursday, March 9, 3:30 pm

Use your imagination and have a blast painting rockets.

Martians and Aliens  –  Paperbag Puppet Theatre (Grades K-6)
Thursday, March 16, 3:30 pm
Old Town Newhall Library
We all have some ideas about how aliens and Martians should look. Little green men perhaps?  Make yours using a paper bag and then have fun with other kids when you put a play together.

Build a Rocket LEGO Block Party (All Ages/Families)
Friday, March 24, 2:00 pm

Challenge yourself to create a rocket using LEGO blocks.

Elementary Reading Club (Grades K-6)
Mondays, March 20 and 27, 3:30-4:30 pm
Canyon Country Library
Discuss your favorite books, then participate in a space-themed play! Lots of interactive fun.

 

Family Programs

Basics of Rockets/Rocketry
With Teresa Ciardi, Professor of Physical Science and Astronomy/College of the Canyons
Wednesday, March 15, 6:30 pm
Valencia Library
Explore the basics behind sending a rocket into space in this fun, interactive family presentation.  This program will be of interest to teens and adults;  recommended for grades 4 and up.

Stellar Family Fun Day @ Barnes & Noble (All Ages)
Saturday, March 18, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Valencia Barnes & Noble, 23630 Valencia Blvd.
Take part in a multitude of fun activities presented by bookstore staff and our local children’s librarians:  storytime, crafts, hands-on play and demonstrations of STEM activities, and a chance to check out amazing robotics presented by local girls robotic team Heat It Up and Keep It Cool. Check Barnes & Noble’s online calendar for specific event times.
